How AI Generates Video
The Flipbook Effect
Video isn't magic. It's just a lot of pictures shown very fast (usually 24 or 30 per second).
To make an AI video, the computer has to paint 24 individual paintings for every second of footage.
The Challenge: Consistency
If you asked 24 different painters to paint "a dog running," the dog would look slightly different in every painting. The spots might move, the tail might change length.
When you played it back, the dog would look like it was flickering or morphing. This is a big problem in AI video.
Temporal Consistency is the fancy term for "keeping things looking the same over time." The AI has to remember what the dog looked like in Frame 1 while it paints Frame 2.
How It Works: Diffusion
Most modern video AI uses Diffusion.
1. **Start with Static**: Imagine a TV screen showing "snow" (static noise).
2. **Find the Pattern**: The AI looks at the static and slowly hallucinates a pattern. "I think I see a dog in this noise."
3. **Refine**: It cleans up the image until it's a crisp video.
3D Understanding
The best new models understand 3D space. They don't just paint a flat picture; they imagine a 3D world.
If the camera moves around a person, the AI knows what the back of their head should look like, even if it hasn't drawn it yet.
Conclusion
AI video is one of the hardest frontiers in technology because it requires the computer to be a painter, a director, and a physicist all at once.
